Public Safety
CRIME
Many of us have been personally affected by crime. Whether in your car, garage or home, a break-in leaves a lasting sense of personal violation. These along with carjackings, beatings and shootings have no place in our community. Families are struggling with children addicted to hard core drugs. Syringes are discarded on our streets, digital scales & crack pipes are for sale at our gas stations, and graffiti scars our buildings. We need leadership on the County level addressing these issues in an honest and forceful way. As your council woman, I promise to encourage and support:
- Strategic partnerships between the police, schools, businesses, community, civic and religious groups to find ways to make our district a safer place.
- Community grass roots initiatives for early intervention for at-risk youth, supporting families in crisis and providing drug treatment to address major causes of crime: poverty, drug abuse and decline of the family.
- The use of technology to help our first responders make more effective use of dollars spent.
- Providing parents with simple, affordable resource tools to talk with their children about the real dangers presented by hard core drug use.
- Acknowledgment of drug use as a public health issue that crosses racial and socio-economic boundaries and has a serious impact on public safety.
TRAFFIC
We have roads that are used as cut throughs for commuters and reckless overdevelopment has contributed to congestion. Unfortunately we have aggressive speeding traffic in residential neighborhoods. Residents are faced with the reality of having cars crashing into their front lawns and endangering their families and neighbors. We need a multidimensional approach. As council representative will encourage and support:
- Expansion of Designated School Zones
- Speed Cameras
- Increased Police Enforcement
- Responsible Development
- Designated and Protected Bike Lanes
- Action
