Economic Development
Our district needs to find a balance between promoting economic activity while protecting our quality of life. We need to create good-paying jobs while we preserve our limited open space and address transportation needs. As your councilwoman, I promise to encourage and support economic development that protects current public and private investments while assuring our district’s quality of life by:
- Reinforcing, reinventing and redeveloping major transportation routes, our main streets and existing retail centers.
- Focusing on continuing UMBC’s development as a vibrant research community
- Drawing businesses to the large Enterprise Zone within out district: http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/economicdev/ edd_enterprise.html
- The implementation of Transit Oriented Developments
- Resisting development that threatens our limited open space, congests our roads and cannibalizes existing businesses while leaving viable commercial properties vacant, which leads to decay and crime.
